Every year, communities across the country participate in the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada’s Spring Sprint. The event raises money to fund research, education and support for the 55,000+ Canadians living with a brain tumour. 27 people are newly diagnosed every day – that’s more than one every hour. With over 120 types of tumours, research and treatment of brain tumours are a challenging undertaking, and events like the Spring Sprint help make this research possible. This year, Hamilton raised almost $80,000 towards the national goal of $1.6 million. It was an honour to be there to capture the event.
To say that it was an emotional day would be an understatement. The event is characterized by everything from hope and support for the survivors… to grief and sadness for lost loved ones. Despite the spectrum of emotion, every participant was united by the desire to find a cure, and by walking and running that Saturday morning, we’re a little bit closer as a result. Donations are being accepted until July 31, 2012. If you’d like to help imagine the cure, please donate online here.
